The last national ranker of 2009 and a worthwhile reminder of the Olympic distance. This was a toughie and I struggled a little bit with the distance. I always find the March-May duathlon season easier to cope with as the body is forced to cope with regular 2 hour abuse!
Anyway, staying the night before in the Chester travelodge, (the glamour of a duathletes life knows no bounds) I carbed up on the standard Italian. Come Sunday and the race itself started off at an insance 10k pace in a field that was a definitive list of the best duathletes in the country with Jez Cox, Ian Cardy, Matt Moorhouse, Julien Lhomme and Phil Holland making up just some of the mix! Nobody was taking it easy and in retrospect I should have paced that first run more sensibly.
Coming into T1 in 6th place I was pretty much well spent. The bike was a suffer-fest and about half way the heavens opened on us all. Into T2 and my 2nd run went better than expected though it was still only good enough for 13th overall. Must pace better!
Looks easy,
