London Duathlon Elite race

What a great race! Last year I did this one and had a tough time, finishing 14th and near the back of the field after what felt like a crazy first 5k left me reeling on the bike. What a difference a year can make. This year I had a strong first 5k, worked in a group of 3 on the bike and then had a superb last run to finish 6th.

Starters ready and coming into T1 with a classy field

ITU World championships Rimini - Italy

Well the worlds was a tough nut to crack and after the initial excitement wore off, I soon realised that having not done an Olympic distance duathlon since the Euros was going to make this a baptism of fire. And so it proved. The build-up was fantastic and the first run started off more like a bull-run than a 10k run. I started feeling rough about half-way in and suffered cramp almost as soon as I left T1. The bike was mostly about damage limitation and the final run was about getting round. Still, a great experience and I was 40th in my age group overall. Roll on next year in.......North Carolina.

Out on the first run and on the bike
