Enfield & Haringey AC Boxing Day 5k

The lure of winning another fantastic glass trophy, (I won this race back in 2007) brought me back to Lee Valley Athletics centre this Boxing Day. The course is fairly unique. An out and backer but with a finish on the running track. As in 2007, the field was, shall we say wide-ranging with some fancy dress going on but also Christine Ohuruogu making an appearance for her club! Fortunately for the rest of the field the distance wasn't 400 metres but 5k.

The race was fairly straightforward in the end. I broke away immediately with only Alex Milne from Enfield & Haringey hanging on. I decided to turn on the gas at the half way point and sensed he had tired but coming into the last kilometre I'm sure I could here him approaching again. Fortunately I had enough left in the tank to push out the last 600 metres and clinch the deal.

1st place, a new PB of 15.33 and a course record. And I get to finish 2009 with a top ten ranking for my age group over 5k. Every race should be like this!
