Harefield duathlon

Wa-hey, another duathlon victory. Well ok, only my 2nd of the season but I'm not a bad runner either. To be honest, with Jez Cox and Carl Ferri pulling out of this one at the last minute I thought I was going to have it all my own way until Mr Noah Knock turned up about 10 seconds before the start. Damn!

This event was a triathlon with a duathlon bolted on top so no swim for me but no 2nd run either. The duathletes get to start at T+ 10 minutes which usually gives enough time for about 20 of the triathletes to finish their first swim before we get the gun to go. Anyway, I had a scorching first run and managed to catch up the entire field just before the half-way point.......whoops! I suppose this swimming stuff must be tiring.

Unfortunately I had such a massive lead from the run that I was over-confident on the bike and had no way of knowing that Noah had also had a fantastic run (the 2nd fastest on the day) and was rapidly catching me. With the descent into the finish rapidly approaching I could see somebody on my tail and thought I better step on it just in case it was a duathlete rather than a triathlete. I'm glad I did. Noah was only 4 seconds behind!!! 4 seconds!!!!

Easily the fastest run of the day.....

......and perhaps the most inept bike!

Never mind, coming first twice in one week ain't so bad

Sri Chinmoy 3 x 1 mile relay race, Battersea park

Shhh, don't tell the coach about this one. I sneaked in a tasty 3 x 1 mile relay race on Monday at Battersea park. I've been competing in the excellent Sri Chinmoy races for many years now. They are organised by the bunch who lead the splendid Run and Become chain of running shops and having been part of the winning relay team last year, I thought I'd give this one a try and see if I could repeat the feat of being in the winning team and getting the fastest individual split.

Yes to both! The team comprised another multi-sporter in the guise of Clinton (1st leg), my mate Matt (2nd leg) and moi (3rd leg). Clinton took the most competitive leg and came through in 4th, close to the 3 runners in front of him. Matt had the hero leg and snatched 1st with about 50 metres to go, leaving me very little to do but extend the lead.

And the prize goes to......all 3 of us!
